Hello, I'm Daniele Comi. I'm a Manager and AI Engineer at IBM Consulting Italy, in the AI & Analytics Practice, where I design and lead generative and agentic AI systems for clients in defence, financial services, public administration and automotive, from the first discovery workshop to production. Most of my work sits where AI meets trust: privacy-preserving inference with homomorphic encryption, LLM watermarking, red-teaming and evaluation, and sovereign AI for Italian-language contexts. I'm an inventor on US patents in this space, first author of a paper at EMNLP 2023 with IBM Research Zurich, and an IBM Redbooks Gold Author. I studied Computer Science and Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, and I'm still the same person who fell in love with computers, electronics, math and physics as a kid.
Technical lead on generative and agentic AI pursuits: discovery with the client, solution architecture, executive pitch, then staying hands-on through delivery.
HErBERT: privacy-preserving NLP for text classification, running transformer inference on homomorphically encrypted data. The starting point of my later patent work on FHE-secured AI.
Built an Android messaging app and its Java server on a client-server architecture.
A two-stage method for multilingual intent discovery: a transformer fine-tuned with adapters for natural language inference, then used to find intents it has never seen, in English, Italian and German.
Read the paperA long-running series I host to make AI and generative AI topics approachable.
Leading client pursuits end to end, from discovery and architecture to executive pitch, delivery and team coaching.
Specialisation in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Thesis on privacy-preserving transformer inference with homomorphic encryption.
Computing systems engineering, with projects spanning file systems, compilers, FPGA hardware design and networked multiplayer software.
I still spend a lot of spare time building things I'm curious about, and lately reading about quantum computing and post-quantum cryptography. I follow Formula 1 closely and I'm a Scuderia Ferrari fan, which made working on their fan app a special kind of project. Sci-fi films and series, PC games, and long evenings with friends around good wine and a barbecue in Brianza take care of the rest.
